Scheduling:
- The music school year is divided into two semesters, (first semester: Sept.-Dec., second semester: Jan.-May,) and optional summer lessons, (June-Jul.).
- In the weeks proceeding a new lesson schedule (before the first semester and summer lessons) an email will be sent out with regards to scheduling. Please email with the top three lesson time choices per child and all the times lessons CANNOT be scheduled. Please reply within one week.
- Please report any vacations or other planned absences from lessons at this time.
Tuition:
- Lessons payment depends on lesson location. In general, lessons are between $16-$20 per half hour.

- A $25 fee will be charged for all returned checks.
- Payment is due at the lesson or in advance.
Attendance:
- Missed lessons without a 24 hour advanced notice will not be refunded or rescheduled. Extenuating circumstances may nullify this clause.
- So as not to spread ailments, students who are sick should please cancel their lessons.
- Lessons canceled by the teacher will be refunded.
- If the Cambria-Friesland School District has a weather-related cancelation, music lessons for that day will be canceled as well. These cancelations will be refunded.
- To ensure that all students get the most out of each lesson, lessons should start and end on time so please plan arrival time accordingly.
Music Books:
- Music books will be provided for a short-term basis. A fee will be charged for all lost or damaged books. Parents are expected to purchase the necessary books within two weeks of notification. If the parents have difficulty purchasing the correct book they should contact the teacher immediately.
Practice:
- Quality of practice is emphasized over quantity. Practicing is most beneficial when it is done at least once every day. The amount of practice time required will vary from student to student; but in general, a student should practice a half hour or more for five days of the week.
- The student should briefly run through and review his/her assignment upon returning home after lessons to promote retention.
- The student should read his/her notebook at every practice session.
- Theory should be accomplished in a timely manner- preferably the day after the lesson while all instructions are still fresh in the student’s mind.
At the Lesson:
- Doors are locked at all times for safety reasons. Please ring the doorbell when you arrive to lessons.
- Upon arrival, the student should remove his/her shoes in the entry way and leave any coats or backpacks on the bench.
- During the lesson, the student should remain focused and attentive.
- No cell phones, electronic devices, food, beverages or gum is allowed during the lesson.
- Pianos, books, etc. should be treated with care.
Musicianship:
- The student is greatly encouraged to listen to a wide variety of piano music, including, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century music.
- Though not required, it would be beneficial to the students’ music education if the student attend music concerts such symphony orchestras and piano recitals.
- Every Spring there will be a required recital. Students unable to perform should contact the teacher so a make-up performance can be arranged in a different venue.
- The WSMA holds a solo ensemble music festival for grades 6-12 every spring that all students are encouraged to participate in at least once. Homeschooled students are assessed a fee by the WSMA for participation.
- The student is encouraged to share their talent by performing frequently in various venues such as churches, nursing homes, schools, etc.
